"Hunter Tails in Sonic 1" isn't an official title but a fan-made modification of the classic Sonic the Hedgehog as a pure action adventure in which you get to play Tails himself! Basically, it takes the beautiful gameplay of the original game from 1991 and instead of Sonic, you have the two-tailed fox running around, giving players a new vantage on the classic stages. It has revamped graphics and mechanics with some original thinking thrown in, making it a must-play for any Sonic fan.
Playing as Tails is fun! You will run, jump, and collect items just like the classic Sonic game, only with Tails' special abilities. He can fly for short distances while holding down a button, handy for gliding onto high platforms or away from obstacles. Collect rings to stay alive, gather Power-ups—Spin Attack and Fireball replace the traditional Chaos Emeralds—and race against time to vanquish Eggman's badniks and bosses. The stages comprise a combination of familiar Sonic locales with a Tails-centrist variation, promising loads of fun and quite a challenge.
"Hunter Tails in Sonic 1" is the brainchild of Sonic fans from the fervent modding community. Sonic fans have always adored Tails, so spotlighting him was only a matter of time. In using the Sonic Mania Plus tools, the mod manages to retain the fluid gameplay and great graphics of the modern Sonic games, while staying true to the spirit of the original. It rose to popularity owing to its ingenious nature and adherence to the traditional formula.
