What Is Portal Gun in Sonic 2?

"Portal Gun in Sonic 2" is a fan project that adapts the unique portal gun mechanics from Portal into the Sonic the Hedgehog 2 universe. This mini-project allows players to throw blue and orange portals that affect not just Sonic but enemies and their projectiles as well. This merging of mechanics provides a refreshing twist on the classic Sonic platformer, where placing portals can really turn the tide of a fight.

Controls

A + Direction: Shoot blue portal.
C + Direction: Shoot orange portal.

Use these portals just as one would in Portal: to solve puzzles, traverse levels, or even defeat enemies by sending their projectiles hurtling back at them. The idea takes its inspiration from Portal but is very much neon-etched within the speed-and-action centric world of Sonic.

Tips & Tricks

Perfect Timing: Redirect enemy projectiles or create shortcuts with portals.
Creative Experimentation: Because of the Sonic engine's warping mechanics, unpredictable results may ensue; don't ever shy away from creatively breaking the game.

It was developed as a side project by a passionate developer willing to basically experiment with integrating Portal's portal gun mechanics with Sonic the Hedgehog 2. The developer now has moved onto other projects, but they shared the source code hoping the community can take it further to a full-fledged puzzle game with custom levels.
