Raying in Sonic 1 isn't a complete game but rather a hidden character in some vintage Sonic the Hedgehog-type series. The character Ray is a secret mysterious red echidna with his very own moves and backstory. In Sonic 1, Ray can be unlocked as a secret character with a set of codes in the title screen. Ray is a lot of fun, bringing a whole lot of variety to the gameplay and offering a playstyle different from Sonic and the other classic characters.
Ray in Sonic 1 controls a lot like Sonic but with some subtle differences. Ray is a little bit slower in running; however, he commands more powerful attacks and can climb up walls, so he is an excellent choice for vertical exploration. Use the D-pad to climb, A for attack, and B to jump. Hardly mastering Ray's wall climbing and attack timing will allow you a short path to victory across levels and even boss fights.
Ray's existence was uncovered by Sonic fans in the late 1990s. Gamers found there was a hidden character within the Sonic 1 data, later confirmed by developers. While his history is not one of the main focus points in Sonic 1, Ray has since appeared in other Sonic games such as Sonic Mania, which fleshed out several aspects of his lore and abilities.
Because Ray in Sonic 1 is nothing but an element of the classic Sonic the Hedgehog series, it can be played on most platforms without restrictions. However, if you're at school or work and are not allowed to access the game, then try using a browser-based emulator or look for legal ROMs from trusted sources.
Ray in Sonic 1, much like the entire Sonic the Hedgehog series, was developed by Sega. Even during the creation of Dark characters like Ray, Sega showed the passion for creating fun and innovative experiences.
Sonic 1, and thus Ray, was initially released on the Sega Genesis/Mega Drive, but now it can be played on a host of other platforms:
