Entering the world of "Sonic 2 Archives" is like a dream come true. It is a breathtaking and innovative hack of the original "Sonic The Hedgehog 2," in an attempt to breathe finer life into this beloved game. The project resurrects and grafts in a host of ideas, early concepts, and prototypes that never met a final release: together making it a melange of everything "Sonic." By delving into Sonic's rich development history, "Sonic 2 Archives" resurrects the "Present" timeline and reintroduces zones brimming with a potent mixture of both nostalgic appeal and new creative concepts.
To play the "Sonic 2 Archives" is pretty much like how it was done in the original Sonic 2 game. Control the Sonic the Hedgehog using the arrow keys for movement, jumps, and spin attacks. Each zone is to be traversed, Chaos Emeralds gathered, and finally reach and defeat the boss. There's still fast-paced platforming action to do in each level of "Sonic The Hedgehog 2" that now comes with more innovative ideas and enhancements.
"Sonic 2 Archives" is a labor of passion by a team of committed developers, who have put dozens of hours into restoring and enhancing the original game. The project tries to portray the possibilities of "Sonic The Hedgehog 2" by giving life to concepts that ended up on the cutting room floor. The team delved into research of older prototypes and concept arts to build something that feels both familiar and new.
Though "Sonic 2 Archives" remains unreleased via any mainstream platform services, it has of late appeared for play on personal computers or through emulators. Have good internet connectivity and requisite software for smooth gameplay.
The development of "Sonic 2 Archives" appears to be a collaborative effort, with Nik Pi serving as the lead developer, with capital contributions from other well-skilled coders, artists, and musicians that make this project true to and beyond the original.
"Sonic 2 Archives" is intended to be played on a PC with emulators installed or directly on a compatible system. It is not yet available on any mobile or console device.
