What Is Sonic 3D Blast?
Sonic 3D Blast is a classic 3-D platformer and was the first-ever 3-D Sonic game. While an isometric perspective makes one feel a little bit of depth, it still gives full allure to fast action-packed gameplay favored by Sonic fans. Not much successful when compared to some other titles of his, it is a charming, nostalgic game that deserves to be taken for a spin. The story unfolds on an island home to Flickies, the little mystical birds that Dr. Robotnik exploits for one foul purpose: operating his robots. Your job is to kill Badniks, free the Flickies, and throw Robotnik out of the island!
How to Play
Sonic 3D Blast is about guiding Sonic through various levels in which he collects rings and power-ups and knocks out bad guys. Controls are simple:
- MOVE: Use D-pad to move left and right.
- JUMP: Press Up to jump.
- BOLA: Press B (or A with some controllers) to throw a Bola that will knock out enemies.
- START: Use start to pause or bring up the menu.
With its isometric view, the game changes the entire platforming experience from the usual and calls for strategic thinking while plotting moves and jumps.
Tips & Tricks
- Ring Collection: Rings are your good friend in Sonic 3D Blast! They prevent harm, so collect as many as you can.
- Use the Bola with Caution: This is a powerful weapon, but with limited uses. Save it for the harder enemies or tricky obstacles.
- Plan Your Jumps: The view can give you a hard time, so take your time planning your jumps to avoid falling into pits or missing collectibles.
- Don't Stop Moving: Sonic is fast, so keep moving to avoid getting stuck in tight spaces or damaged by enemies.
History
Sonic 3D Blast came out in 1996 on the Sega Saturn and was ported to multiple other platforms. It was one of the first attempts in Sonic coming into 3D and demonstrates homegrown creativity and innovation even though it never matured into a final finish like its later counterparts. Although limited in success, it continues to thrill fans with its fresh twist on Sonic's timeless formula.
Play Unblocked
Unfortunately, Sonic 3D Blast may very well be blocked in some regions or schools because of its age and origin. But the good news is that there are ways for you to get it through emulators that are not so rigid or simply on digital storefronts for older games. And if it's proving tricky to find, then try searching from Sega's own official online store or legitimate websites for emulators.
Game Developer
The Sega AM2 is the team behind Sonic 3D Blast, the same team also responsible for many of Sega's most recognized titles, including the Sonic the Hedgehog series. This team is known for designing captivating gameplay at a fast pace, and those qualities are well-reflected in this title, even if it did not enjoy the same level of success as some of their other titles.
Game Platforms
Originally launched as a launch game for the Sega Saturn, Sonic 3D Blast was soon ported to various other platforms:
- PC
- PlayStation
- Xbox
- Through emulators or official ports on mobile devices
Making the ports available for a modern audience was a fine gesture, so they could be the ones to enjoy the classic 3-D platforming.
