What is Sonic the Hackable?

This is an enjoyable, finished version of the classic Sonic the Hedgehog adventure, with newly designed stages, new gimmicks, and new exciting moves such as air dashing with supersonic speed. The mod takes you back to South Island, only with a difference: parts of the island are now submerged due to the crash of Dr. Eggman's Death Egg MK II. Prepare for new and challenging adventures as Dr. Eggman uses all six Chaos Emeralds to build a new fortress on the island and get his revenge on Sonic for his previous defeat. The green hero has yet again come to the rescue!

How to Play

In the mod, you control Sonic by using the arrow keys or a gamepad. At its core, the gameplay is still the classic Sonic experience of running and jumping and collecting rings to stay alive. New to this is the air dash: Sonic can dash through the air to maneuver swiftly or gain greatly elevated platforms. Unique layouts are presented in each zone filled with obstacles requiring careful consideration and precise execution on timing. Collect the Chaos Emeralds for special capabilities and to battle Dr. Eggman's forces.

Tips & Tricks

Master the Air Dash: Use your air dash to access secret areas and to save time. This comes handy in marginal moments for difficult jumps or relieving yourself from danger.
Ring Situation: Always have rings on health for survival during enemy attacks. If you lose all your rings, take a hit and start over from the last checkpoint.
Explore Every Corner: New layouts mean hidden paths and secrets. Explore thoroughly to find extra lives and bonus points.
Use Chaos Emeralds Wisely: Each gives powerful abilities. Use them during crucial boss battles to turn the tide in your favor.

History

Sonic the Hackable resulted from the community-wide effort fueled by passion under the guidance of CHRdutch and supported by other talented teams. Using the original Sonic the Hedgehog (1991) and the Sonic 1 GitHub disassembly as a base, the mod is the result of years of work to improve the classic game experience. The project is inspired by the works and support of various members of the Sonic modding community, assuring a finely-tuned and challenging experience.

Unblocked Play

While Sonic the Hackable is mostly intended for playing on your home devices, always check to see if your school or worksite puts a ban on running custom game mods. In the general case, you should be fine running this game on your own computer.

Developer of Games

The modification project was led by CHRdutch with several developers, painters, and musicians. Key contributors include Markeyjester, SnowBro, fuzzbuzz, and many more people who worked on the project's tools and guides.
