What Is Brutal Sonic

Brutal Sonic is a manic and fan-created hack of Sonic the Hedgehog that throws you into six new stages, complete with unique bosses that push your skills a bit further. According to the developer, while at first its looks are so "vanilla," this hack actually is built upon a greatly re-organized and cleaned-up Sonic 1 engine. This gave him the ability to toy with many more secrets, fast-track the entire development process, and give players a truly challenging and engaging experience. With five difficulty settings and a plethora of challenges that test every kind of skill, Brutal Sonic serves a great taste for any Sonic fan in need of some fresh juice for an intense experience.

How to Play It

Use the arrow keys or WASD to move Sonic, and hit the spacebar to make him jump. Collect rings to preserve your life, and try not to get hit by enemies and obstacles. The game uses classic Sonic physics, but never lets you rest with twists in each of its challenges. Each level is constructed to put your speed, agility, and thinking skills to the test. Boss battles might just get plenty upset, where the insane timing and tricky strategies become your best friends.

Building Tips

Save Rings: Rings are your lifeline, so avoid damage whenever you can.

To create something different for the Sonic community, a couple of developers set out to design Brutal Sonic. Brimming with passion for the original Sonic the Hedgehog and wanting to create a challenging and yet fun experience, the developers themselves cleaned up the engine, gave new content to it, and polished the gameplay. In the end, they gave a worthy hack of the original that kept the spirit alive but added a new twist.
